Mark, at the risk of self-incrimination, refuses to admit exactly how long he has been a fixture in the Philadelphia Bar/Restaurant and Music Scenes. He has had a long tenure as bartender at Rembrandts in the Fairmount Section as well as spending a number of years behind the bar at the former Goat Hollow in Mt. Airy.
He is an accomplished singer/songwriter guitarist playing a variety of styles ranging from Celtic to blues and alternative rock. He is the fortunate husband of Karen; and together they have been blessed with two beautiful children, Cecilia 8 and Dylan 5.
Evan is a teacher, writer, and graduate student who was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. Relatively new to Philadelphia, he's looking for recommendations of essential local events and places to visit, and of course looking to meet Philadelphia's best and brightest.
He's especially happy to discuss music, books, dogs, beer, and/or whiskey on a quiet afternoon. He wears a lot of black t-shirts, but doesn't mean anything by it.
Garrett is a fairly accurate translation of that imaginary friend you had when you were six, the inspiration for this character. Like that imaginary friend, he is unthreateningly foreign (Canadian!), into the same things as you (irony!), and is usually convincing you to push that envelope just a smidge further (know what goes with Coke Zero? Whisky). However, like most good adaptations, Garrett isn't interested in slavishly conserving every little idiosyncrasy you dreamt up (like being a clown, which is a tad creepy), but instead preserving the spirit of your imagination (he'll smile if you tip him... and clowns smile!).
Also, he's nicer than he looks. So say hi, sometime. And then start talking about film. It's just like the old days, except you don't have to stop talking to him just because you're an adult and everyone else thinks you should... are you really going to lose ANOTHER friend to society's groundless expectations?
